Bridport Scottish Dancers held their 12th Annual Ball on Saturday 22nd January 2011 at the Sir John Colfox School.
Almost one hundred keen dancers met for an evening of reels, jigs and strathspeys with music provided by the Strathallan Band who are very popular for similar events. Their leader, Chris Oxtoby, is reputed to have one of the warmest smiles in the business and their music certainly kept us on our toes for the whole evening.
Dancers from clubs around the south-west (Bournemouth, Chard, Charminster, Exeter, Taunton, Weymouth and Yeovil) were joined by an intrepid group of French ladies from the Scots Bonnet Club based in St Quay Perros, near Lannion in Brittany and one dancer travelled all the way from Scotland !
With the men in full Highland evening dress with kilts in multitudinous
tartans, ladies in ball gowns of every colour imaginable, sashes swirled and
feet flew
. A very good evening was had by all.
