On the evening of Wednesday, 13th September 1995, the founding committee and
teachers waited anxiously at Church House, Bridport, to see if anyone would
appear at 7.30p.m. for the first class of Bridport Scottish Dancers. They were
overwhelmed when forty-seven people, mostly with little or no Scottish country
dancing experience, walked through the door.
The two teachers, Ann Prior and Bill Allan, with the founding committee - Patricia and Jed Hughes, Mary Mallows, Philippa Fortescue and Robert and Margaret Dawson - through their skill, personality and perseverance, managed to build a successful teaching club, which reached its tenth anniversary in September 2005. The occasion was marked with a Tenth Anniversary Grand Ball at the Sir John Colfox School, Bridport.
During our first ten years we had our fair share of ups and downs,
but we are still going strong with an average attendance of up to forty eight
per week, and with many stalwarts from that first night continuing to support
and guide the club.
